So I went to Miami. I was in Miami. I saw Miami beach. End of story.
Ok. I’m kidding. It was awesome and here’s why exactly.
But before we start, let me introduce you to previous articles. Just in case you didn’t read them. This’ll give you some background on my trip to the USA. I encourage you to read them. If you did, I dare you to read them again 🙂
Did I really go to Miami just to see Miami beach?
Absolutely! Ok, now you might think I’m crazy. Well, maybe I am, but let’s leave it for my psychiatrist to judge, ok? We all have different logic and different reasons to do things. I wanted to see Miami beach and I did. And I loved it! Therefore, it was not a waste of time and money. Nothing that brings us joy is a waste of time.
First of all, I should mention that around the time I started traveling, the hurricane Dorian happened. My whole trip was planned, all the tickets bought, hostels booked. Due to the hurricane, nothing was sure anymore. If I didn’t make it to Miami, because of canceled planes, I wouldn’t make it to Las Vegas either and everything would fall apart.
Luckily for me, the Hurricane went up the North and my trip was safe. But, god, it made so much damage. I have never had to be worried about a hurricane in my entire life. So this was very new to me.
It also made my realize how safe Poland is. Like… We had only one tornado I ever heard of. It did destroy a few villages, but not like half country. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a tragedy tho. We don’t have terrorism, mass shootings etc. Or at least not to my knowledge. We had some areas flooded, that for sure. But we have no volcanoes, so the only earthquake we had, happened, when an old mine has collapsed.
Someone, correct me if I forgot something.
Anyway, I made it to Miami. Very early in the morning, but it didn’t seem by all means destroyed. It hellish hot tho. And my future consisted of an hour walk in the sun with a very heavy backpack. Actually two backpacks. The travel one on my back and smaller one on the front. I couldn’t send my suitcase back home from Mackinac Island and ended up leaving it behind. Had to take my belongings with me.
Let’s go Miami beach
But first, I needed to get to the hostel. It was run by Spanish family and the lady didn’t speak English. At all. It took us some time, but we managed to communicate. I had my bed and could finally free myself from all the backpacks, tiny bags attached to it and hoodie I had around my waist.
Quick shower, a little rearrangement in the small backpack, and I was ready to go. And you know what? I decided to walk, like I did in New York. I check on google maps. It was supposed to take me one 1,5 hour. Count in some additional time if I get tired or confused about the way. Ok. Maybe two.
Well. Guess what? It took me 3 hours. And I wasn’t even halfway there. Ok. I did get a tiny bit lost and yes I did go the grocery on the way. But still. It was hot. It was humid. My data wasn’t working. And I felt the stroke coming.
Thankfully I stumbled upon a bus going straight to Miami beach. It was 3 dollars and I made it safely all the way there, siting in the bus with air conditioning.
There I only had to walk a few streets to get to the Miami beach. On my way I went to another grocery. Not just for ice cream, but also something to drink, some food. And I found this little treasure.
Tamarind nectar. It was… Interesting. It tastet like apple juice from a rusty metal cup. Interesting as I said.
Finally, Miami beach!
There’s not as many photos from Miami, as from New York. My camera died. My phone wasn’t in a good shape either and I still needed it to navigate my way back home.
I stripped of to my swimsuit, left Chłopinka to guard my backpack and went swimming. Maybe it was more of jumping over the waves than actually swimming. The sand was tiny, delicate and felt nice under my feet. The water was so pleasantly warm. It was perfect.
I finally had my well-deserved vocation. No walking whole day, no working, just me and the water. Some time to relax. I love going to the beach. I love water. This is where I charge my energy the most. And I really need that after this summer. So I really went to Miami for the Miami beach and it was totally worth it.
After that, I went for some food and got myself a huge drink. It was awesome!
And then I had to go back to the hostel. I needed rest and to prepare myself for the next day. For I had another flight waiting for me. This time to Las Vegas.
